Upon going to the town offices, my wife was informed that we were both not in the system and had never had any permits.  My told the lady over and over that we have had permits since 2001.  We had received annual renewal mailings from the town, so we must be in the system. 

After a continuous back and forth, with an employee who could barely speak English and was busy eating her fried chicken lunch, the town employee blamed the computers and entered us into the sytem and provided two 2010 permits.

Earlier this week I looked carefully while driving slowly down my street.  Not one car had the PURPLE 2010 PARKING PERMIT displayed.  A few had the orange 2009 permit, but most had no permit at all.  Our neighbors (3 adults) have four cars and not one has a permit.

Mayor, what’s going on here?  Budget cut back on the reminder mailings for 2010 permits?  Widespread disregard for the resident parking permit laws?

I see it everyday.  Driver after driver talking on their phones, weaving between the lines, driving slowly and failing to signal lane changes and turns.

3,600 crashes and 13 deaths caused by cell phone use.  Law enforcement issued 10,000 tickets – could have been a million!

GET OFF YOUR DAMN PHONES!

Who the hell ever set the timing on this light.  I’ve always seen lights change red one direction, have a three (3) second delay, and then turn green the cross-direction.

Not at Washington & Western.  Every morning I sit on Washington, going toward town and see my light turn green as the car(s) from Western continue across in front of me.  Some of this is the other driver pushing the full extent of the yellow, but I’ve watched both lights and the they change green and red simultaneously.

This is a recipe for disaster!  Who is responsible.  It can’t take that much to adjust the timing.  Could it?

Beginning Monday, the township started issuing $85 fines to motorists caught running the red light by a camera at Brick Boulevard and Chambers Bridge Road, a hot spot for traffic accidents.

The program makes the Ocean County community the second in the state to implement the red-light camera system. Newark started issuing tickets in December.

Since Monday, Brick has already issued 69 summonses.

During the 31-day test period that ended Sunday night, the Brick Police Department issued 1,087 warnings to motorists for red light violations captured by the camera system, said department spokesman Capt. John Rein.

Do the math!  That’s $1,108,740 in revenue and $228,000 in expense to ATS.  Great return on investment.  Even the Morristown Town Council could grasp the logic of this for Morrsitown.

“The implementation of the red light camera system is one example of this department’s commitment to use technology to improve our effectiveness and efficiency,’’ Brick police chief Nils Bergquist said. “The use of the RLC system allows us to deploy our resources to other critical needs of our community while still addressing the risks associated with red light violations.’’

Brick Township has contracted with Arizona-based American Traffic Solutions Inc. to provide the service. Through the arrangement, the township did not pay for the installation of the cameras but will pay $19,000 a month to ATS.

Photographs and 12-second video clips of the license plates of the offending vehicles will be reviewed by ATS personnel and police, Rein said. The car’s registration and ownership will be verified with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission before any fine is issued, he said.

Fines will be issued when a vehicle has completely crossed the stop line after a traffic light turns red, Rein said. The cost is the same as if a motorist were stopped by a police officer, but the violation does not impose any points on a driver’s license.

What was more ironic about it, that the law enforcement officers were breaking the laws, or,  that they were illegally parked in front of Dunkin Donuts!!!?

I think the donuts take the cake!

Oh Mr. Police Chief, why the double standard on following the laws?  No wondersMorristown drivers don’t give a shit about following the driving laws or common courtesy on the roads.

I’ll be sure to raise this question to Council Woman Deeb at her Community Meeting for the ward next week.

I would ask the normal set of questions:

Where is the enforcement?  But, I had seen the police officer negotiating an accident at an intersection along The Green!

What the hell was he thinking?  I don’t assume that drivers in Morristown are thinking anymore! 

What is going on in this town?

No One Stops For, No One Yields For and No One Slows For Pedestrians AT THE CROSS-WALKS!

Everyone is in a rush!  New Jersey workers love their jobs!  I never have seen people in such a hurry to get to work. 

Give those people not driving a little break!  They’d love to get to their jobs, alive!

Oh yea, and as the tall yellow signs in the middle of the street read, it is a ‘State Law’ – STOP For PEDESTRIANS!

Since Friday I’ve been cut off several times and I’ve seen numerous people blow red lights and cross-walks! I’ve seen a couple dozen lane changes among other cars, wothout even a signal. I’ve seen several hundred people talking on their cellphones (in hand) while driving – to be fair, many of these are the people who did not signal, who blew lights and signs, who cut me off!!

And last but not least, the aggressive, self-caring drivers of neighboring Mendham and Madison.  Driving their BMWs and Mercedes, their Lexus and Audi, these a-holes are the “cream of the crop”!  Or, should I say, “STEAM OF THE CRAP PILE!”

People, wake up learn how to drive!
